New Hope Trip Memorial Day Weekend May 2006

Day One

we get to New Hope Early on Friday Afternoon and drive slowly down the main street. The last time we were in New Hope was at least six years or more. We had stayed at the hotel in Peddlers Village and sort of stumbled upon New Hope. We always planned to come back and finally did it. We usually ended up in Cape May every time we had a few days but this time it was a bit different. We also have a plan to attend the Blues and Wine Festival at Waterloo Village, so stay tuned or just read on of it after May 28th.

Here is our Bed and Breakfast CordialsHopefully I will have changed this photo for a less blurry one but I took this after two bottles of Hope valley Vinyards Wine. The place is gorgous and is about a minute or two out of the main street of New Hope. The back deck is a great area to sit and watch the birds land at the feedrers in the tree lined lawn. Ciro and Bob the propritors make you feel welcome and at ease. We were welcomed to the smell of fresh baked goods as Ciro explained the layout of the place. Here is part of the back deck: and another shot of the great plant work Bob has done. Now I know why our potted plants never make it since Bob is constantly watering andtending to them. We just put ours out and hope for the best. The baked goods were great, something we really don't need but we are vacationing.

We were going to eat in the middle of town but I spied the Triumph Brewery and resturaunt so we hit there for a sampler and dinner. We were a bit shocked that it was still lunch time as they didn't change to their dinner menu but we ordered the Quesadilla of the day and a Ceasers Salad. i tried the beer sampler which was a lot of beer, eight 5 ounce glasses. The dining room is a bit spartan but is lined with artwork of local artists. Our Waiter had a new trainee with him and he ended up doing most of the work. It was a great light meal but the 40 ounces of beer left its mark as we walked through New Hope later. For all of the stuff in this little town Public restrooms are practically non existent. We finally found one in a little mall that brought back memories. It was coin operated. I thought these things went out with dial phones. We spent the night walking the main street and found a quaint Ice Cream shop. Doreen tried the Malted Ball Crunch butit tasted more like Vanilla with Chocalate Chips. I went for the Cerries for George (Cherry Vanilla). The ice cream was fresh made and wasn't like the hard frozen stuff you normally get at Friendlys. I think New Hope makes its Municpal monies from parking fees and fines. The meters are active until 9PM and cost you $.25 for each 20 minutes, what a racket.

Day Two

We start our day after a great nights sleep. The bed is firmer than ours but we get a decent nights sleep. We both have a hard time sleeping when we travel. We get upstairs early to taste some of ciro's fresh baked goodies. There is a Spinach Quiche with some warm cake, fresh fruit and a fridge full of yougart. If we wanted we could have started the morning in the Hot Tub on the deck but we aren't that daring. We head out to the Flea Market just South of Lambertville. Lambertville is just a short ride across the Delaware. The Flea Market is a noce outing and Doreen found a Patti Play Pal Doll to add to her collection. It may not be an original but it fits her collection. We then headed off to Uninville Winery for some Wine Tasting. While there the wine attendant tells us about two other local wineries. So we head off to Amwell Winery for some more tasting. From there we headed to Hopewell Valley Vineyards. While there we find out they are having a Blues band play later that evening. We decide to come back there for some Blues and Vino. As we head back to Cordials we pas sthe HI Rib place and stop for a late lunch, early dinner. The ribs were great. I had the Rib sampler while Doreen had a half rack of thier original Baby back Ribs. In my sampler there was portion of their Cajon Ribs. Doreen had to eat those since they were too spicey for me. She is a trooper.

We got back to Cordials to have some coffee and tea along with some of Ciro's cookies. Bob was still out tending to the Garden. The man doesn't stop but the Garden shows it. We had a nice talk about getting rid of garden pests like moles and ground hogs. Bob was shocked when he found out the fine for moving Ground hogs across the river. But the varmits were eating his flowers as fast as he could get them in the pots.

We head out to St. Martins for 5:30PM Mass. Surprisingly the Church is as close as St. Als is to our House. It is amazing how different Parishes celebrate the same Mass. We get out of Church with just enough time to head over to Hopewell Valley Vineyards for the Music and Wine. We find a table on the deck and get a cold bottle of Pinot Grigio to start. As we look at the band Doreen and I look at each other and we know the band. These guys played at Red, Hot and Blue in Cherry Hill. But they had the enitre band. At their break they stopped at our table and chatted for a bit. they both are from trenton and still play at Red Hot and Blue once a month. We sat through two of their sets and polished off the Pinot plus a bottle of their Sandy Brook Blush. Doreen flagged both of us when she couldn't feel her nose any more. We also had to paceourselves because tomorrow we are headed to Waterloo Village for a day of Blues and Wine.

As we head back to Cordials we pass through Lam

bertville and I spy an open parking spot on the Main Drag. We pop in and hit the small Coffee Bar for a cappucino and Tea. Both Lambertville and New Hope are bustling at night but mostly the bars are what is open after 7 PM. We made it under the wire in the Coffee Bar. The young girl was sweeping up as we came in. Well hopefully we will have a good time tomorrow in Waterloo.
