Day 2 Starts out a bit Chilly!!!

We leave New Jersey where the temperature was in the 80s to here where we get woke up to a shivering 60 Degrees. It is sunny and windy. The Bay has white caps and the flounder fisherman are drifting by our window so fast they think they are trolling. But we are away from the crowds and we can relax. Today we are going to hit as many Yard Sales as possible. We drove around yesterday and there were signs on every street. Plus the Methodist Church and Catholic Church are having bazaars.

Our first stop is the Methodist Church. I am still in search of a Cheese slicer, Belt and Compact Flash Card Reader. No luck at the Methodist and Catholic Church but they have great fudge and cookies. We help each church's cause and add more stuff to our car but nothing I set out for. We then move on to the rest of the island. One thing about this island is that when you park on a street you block part of the road. This makes for an interesting time when you get out of your car. At one point I caused a long back up on a street just because I opened my door. But it takes about five yard sales before I find a cheese slicer. It looks like a vegetable peeler but for a quarter who cares. But still no belt or Card reader. We see a sign for another sale and we turn down that street. we follow this street as it winds around a small development and then finally come to the sale. Islanders figure only one sign will be enough. Here we find the actual cheese slice Doreen wanted, again only a quarter. The women tried to sell me a talking christmas wreath but we passed on that. As we try to find our way back to the main street we spy one last sale. There really isn't much there but as we are leaving Doreen spies a small frog. She tells the women that I decorate the garden with frogs but I want one that will croak when you walk by. The woman says this does. She wasn't going to sell it but she says $3 it is mine so now I have my frog to annoy folks who pass my Garden.

This place reminds me of my Dad's old place in the Florida keys. A few years back when we were here we stopped in and he has a lot of Junk and I mean Junk. I think I saw a wallet in there with Jimmy Hoffa's Initials on it. But this is the place to stop if you are looking for that lost part or some other obscure item. We are across the street at the Kiwanis Flea Market. This Viking marks the spot and the blue and white tent in the background is covering the large appliances and furniture. They have a similar tent covering the table of goods. Everything is just thrown on the table for you to sort through. I spy a Canon inkjet printer and a buyer rushes up and pays $10 then asks if it works. i would have paid $5 for it especially down here. It will cost you $10 in gas to get an Ink Cartridge. The Kiwanis Woman assures her that it works. She also has a Bridge to sell you. But I find a Hallowenn Cover for my Mailbox for 50 cents. Doreen found some lace napkins for a quarter.

We head off the Island to a Large Flea market. We stop at our rental since it is on the way to grab a quick bite and when we come out we see a line of traffic heading on to the island. It seems the drawbridge opened. What a sight. One boat through the bridge and weekend traffic backs up for over three miles. We feel sorry for those folks as we head for the Flea Market. Problem is both Doreen and I forget if it is north or south of the Island. So we travel south than north than we see the sign and head back south. It was worth it because I found two nice plants and my belt. Only $3 for a leather belt. Can't beat that.

The next two hours we spent traveling the Virginia roads looking for a store that sells computer equipment. We don't know how lucky we are. We end up in a little town called Parksley and I ask at the local Hardware store where is the closest Wal-Mart. The girls laughs and says 40 miles north in Pocomoke City. I then ask about a CVS and they say in Onley. That is only 10 miles south. We head there and no luck at the CVS or a place called Bullfeathers. In Bullfeathers I ask the girls behind the counter if there is a staples or camera shop nearby. They look at me and laugh. "We ain't got anything like that around here. Ya'll has to go to Salisbury for that. Salisvury is 50 miles north. So we give up and head back to the island. The one good thing was that gas was only $1.89 a Gallon so we could fill up and save 5 cents a gallon from the island.

We head to 5 PM Mass at St. Andrews Church. This church is a small white building with a handicap ramp that travels the entire lebgth of the church. Here on the island everyone knows everyone else. Amazingly they have two priests and my parish has only one and my church has probably 3 times as many parishoners. The big collection today was for the migrant workers. The parish helps feed them and cloth them while they work for onee penny a pound picking tomatoes. After Church we head to Steamers for some good seafood. I had the Chincoteague Clam Bake which was four crabs, 6 Oysters, 10 Clams, 1lb of shrimp, an ear of corn, cup of clam chowder and a salad. Doreen had the Steamers Seafood feast that included scallops, Crab Cake, Tuna 6 Shrimp all broiled. Add two sides of an ear of corn and hush puppies and Doreen was stuffed. Although mine looked like more food it wasn't as filling as most of that is shells. Crabs are a lot of work.

After dinner we parked downtown and walked along Main Street. We stopped in the different shops. I had to walk off the two Carb Lagers I had with dinner. We strolled to Mullers for someold fashioned hand made ice cream. We were serenaded by bag pipes as we placed our order. The bag piper ended his concert with a Highland tune and then headed out the door playing a tune as he headed up main street. On our stroll back to the car we looked at the Movie Theater (The Island Roxy) and notice we can go see the Day After Monday night for $5. That is our plan for Monday. The outside of the Movie House is right out of the 50's. As you look at it you are waiting for people tocome screaming out as the Blob oozes from its doors.

That caps a long day and it is back to the rental to fight the wierd Satelite TV controls. We can't get a local weather report but I know what is going on in Bangladesh. Go figure.
