CALIFORNIA'S SELF-DISTRIBUTE LAW PASSES
CORTE MADERA, CA-Governor Pete Wilson signed into law AB
464 creating an additional Alcohol Beverage license (Type 24),
allowing restaurant operators to operate brewery restaurants (in the
past precluded from the brewpub arena by restrictive tied-house
laws). The law becomes effective January 1, 1997. The measure
was backed by the California Restaurant Association. Contact
Michael Merriman, 415-924-6600.
HURRICANE BLOWS DOORS OFF NC MICRO
WILMINGTON, NC - Pam Suhre, Wilmington Brewing
Company, reports that Hurricane Fran blew three overhead doors
off their hinges in July. Doors are back on now. Preventive
measures taken by head brewer Kevin Sondey helped maintain the
integrity of the fermenting beers. Contact Pam Suhre, 910-791-
2337.
PERPETUAL HAPPY HOUR FOR HOSPITALITY FOLKS IN PHILLY

SNOQUALMIE FALLS TO SELL STOCK
SNOQUALMIE, WA-The Snoqualmie Falls Brewing Company
received approval from the Washington Securities Division October
23, 1996 to sell between 525,000 and 1,000,000 shares of its
common stock to the public. The proceeds will be used to construct
and operate a new craft brewery. The stock is offered to bona fide
WA residents only and is being sold directly by the company under
Washington's Small Corporation Offering Registration regulations.

CIDER AT A BOP?!?
SOMERVILLE, MA-Opened in 1995, The Modern Brewer BOP is
both a homebrew supply shop and Brew on Premise. This fall,
owner Jeff Pzena is stocking hard to find sweet ciders that are
recommended for making hard cider. Customers buy the sweet
cider to either take home as is or to make into hard cider at Modern
Brewer. Contact Anne Cushman, 617-497-2127.

NEW FROM THE UK: MCMULLEN
WILMINGTON, DE-Better Beverage Importers announces they
will import McMullen & Sons beers from Hertfordshire, England.
Historically, these beers have been limited to their own pubs in
Hertfordshire and Essex. This is the first time the company has
exported its beer. McMullen Head Brewer, Tony Skipper, was
selected by the Guild of British Beer Writers as "The British
Brewer of the Year" for its inaugural award in 1995. Initial ales
available will be AK Original Bitter, Oatmeal Ale and Anniversary
Porter, and are being introduced in NJ, MA, OH, DE, CT and GA
this month. The beers will be available in 500 ml bottles, 12 oz.

ST. ARNOLD'S DOUBLES UP

independent craft brewer in Texas. Contact Kevin Bartol, 713-686-
9494, or www.saintarnold.com
NEW PACKAGING FOR GRANT'S
WOODINVILLE, WA - Bert Grant's Yakima Brewing Co., has
