* TANKS, A LOT (OF THEM)
We just finished installing another two 60-barrel fermenting tanks last
week. This means that since April we have more than doubled our brewing
capacity. This puts our potential annual capacity at 7-8,000 barrels,
depending on how much Belgian Dubbel we produce (it takes twice as long as
the other beers). Of course, we couldn't be doing this without your
support, so stop on by the brewery for a tour and tasting some Saturday
afternoon and see how you've helped us grow.
* NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT NEWS--THE NEWSLETTER NAME!
We know you're thinking that "Gee, it's nice Flying Fish is growing, but
what's in it for me--specifically, did I win the contest for naming the
newsletter?" The answer is a definite "maybe." Here's the scoop: we
haven't picked a name yet because we've been too busy doing macho
construction work and fighting over who gets to wear the fancy tool belt
(see above item). Since there were so many duplicate entries anyway, we're
going to pick several entries at random and send them their choice of
Flying Fish t-shirts. So watch your e-mail box in the next week to see if
you're a winner. The newsletter will make its appearance some time early
this Fall.
* COME PARTY WITH FLYING FISH DOWN THE SHORE
Summer's almost over, but we have a lot of events still happening at the
Jersey Shore. If you're down on vacation or just for the weekend, stop on
by. Definitely make an effort to check out the Galactic concert (complete
with Flying Fish on draft) on Long Beach Island August 22.

--August 22 (Saturday): Galactic Concert and Flying Fish beers, Long Beach
Island, NJ
The funk hits the fan when this six-member horn-fueled ensemble from New
Orleans performs. Combine the funkiness of the Meters and Neville Brothers
with the grooves of Medeski, Martin and Wood and you'll be pretty close to
defining Galactic (http://www.fogworld.com/galactic). Between songs,
you'll find plenty of draft Flying Fish to quench your thirst.
This concert will celebrate Galactic's new release and major label CD debut
on Capricorn Records.
Proceeds benefit the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences.
Tickets are $15 for two sets.

* YES, FLYING FISH SIGHTED ON THE OUTER BANKS
The truck just left this afternoon (August 13) with a freshly bottled
pallet of Extra Pale Ale, bound for thirsty folks on North Carolina's Outer
Banks. We have no idea where the beer will be available yet, except for the
Flying Fish Restaurant in Kill Devil Hills (no connection except for the
name and we both enjoy good beer). We've been trying to ship beer down
there all summer, but haven't had any tgo spare. This is a trial run, so
get out there and talk us up!
* SINK BARBECUE BOREDOM WITH A FLYING FISH TORPEDO KEG
Become the beer god or goddess at your next picnic when you tap a Flying Fish
torpedo keg. Impress your friends and neighbors as your pour a delightful
brewery fresh Extra Pale Ale, ESB or Farmhouse Summer Ale--without the
backbreaking labor of lugging a full-sized keg around. These 5.2 gallon
kegs
contain approximately 2.5 cases of beer and work with a regular Sankey-type
tap (loaned out by your friendly retailer).
Torpedo kegs are available throughout New Jersey and in Chester, Lehigh and
Northampton Counties in Pennsylvania. You may also have luck getting them in
Virginia from Richmond on south. Some of the bigger stores in South Jersey
carry them in stock, but any retailer can order it for you in a matter of
days. If you're getting stuck finding one, call us at the brewery, we can't
sell kegs directly, but we can help you find a retailer who will.
* FLYING SUSHI FISH DISH
The Italian's have a saying that "no one ages while sitting at the dinner
table." That's why we spend a lot of time at the table pairing good food
and good beer. At the recent Flying Fish beer dinner for 90 folks at
Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Hotel, executive chef Jim Coleman matched Flying
Fish Abbey Dubbel with Smoked Salmon Jerky and Avocado Sushi Rolls. Talk
about amazing--the understated sweetness of the Dubbel and the slight
saltiness of the seaweed wrap was a real treat. Try it for yourself with
the Abbey Dubbel or any Belgian-style Dubbel and a sushi roll.
And while you're at it, send us some of your favorite unusual food/beer
pairings: food@flyingfish.com
Lots and lots of events this month, including some great tastings/festivals.
