* PORTER GETS A BRONZE AT WBC
The Beverage Tasting Institute has just informed us that we've won a Bronze
in the 1997/98 World Beer Championships in the Porter category for Flying
Fish bottle-conditioned porter. Not bad, for our first attempt at bottling
the porter and at bottle conditioning. If you haven't tried it yet, you
owe it to yourself--especially if you can find it on a beer engine. In
addition, Pearly Baker's Ale House in Easton, PA is featuring Flying Fish
Nitro Porter, which is about as good as it gets!
* VARIETY CASES STILL GOING STRONG
Can't decide which is your favorite Flying Fish beer or which one to try
first? Well, in New Jersey and Pennsylvania you can try 'em all in our
Variety Case. Get a sextet of each style, including the elusive Belgian
Dubbel, bottle-conditioned porter, ESB, and Extra Pale Ale. If your local
store doesn't have it, ask them to get it.
These Variety Packs are only available for a short time--unless we can
figure out a less time-consuming way to repack all those cases!
* SHAMELESS MERCHANDISING DEPT.
We've just added a new t-shirt--it's the Extra Pale Ale label in glorious
full color. Check it out: http://flyingfish.com/WannaWear.html
* YET ANOTHER GOOD REASON TO WATCH TV
For you folks in the Delaware Valley, Channel 3 News will feature Flying
Fish Head Brewer Rick Atkins not once, but twice on Tuesday December 16.
Rick will be testing a combination buger/bun maker for Paul Moriarity's
"Can You Believe It?" segment. The spot was filmed in the brewery and Paul
and Rick brew a batch of beer while the burgers are cooking. You can catch
it on the evening news, the 11 pm news and the following morning's news.
* THE FISH SEPTUPLETS
While the world was transfixed on the birth of the septuplets in Iowa,
those who were really in the know witnessed an even more remarkable group
of septuplets--7 Flying Fish beers on tap at once. The fine folks at
Andy's Corner in Bogota, NJ, had the ESB, Extra Pale, Porter, Dubbel and
the last keg of Farmhouse ale on draft. They then had ESB and a cask of
Extra Pale Ale with NJ-grown hops on the beer engines. It was a beautiful
thing.
If you haven't had a chance to get to Andy's, it's well worth the
trip--nothing fancy, just great beer and lots of it. For more info, see
their Web site: http://www.andyscornerbar.com/
* UPCOMING FLYING FISH EVENTS
Things are a bit slow with the holidays, but everyone already has too much
to do. Here's one upcoming event where you can find us:
--December 13 (Saturday): Sampling at Tanczos Beverage, Bethlehem, PA
Free samples of Flying Fish, plus pint glass with purchase and special pricing
2330 Jacksonville Rd
Bethlehem, PA
610-866-8039
Time: Noon -- til it gets too cold to stand outside
There's more to come, so keep checking: http://flyingfish.com/live.html
* CASK-CONDITIONED BEER UPDATE
If you haven't tried a cask version of our ESB, Extra Pale Ale or Porter,
you're missing out. Cask beers are "living" in that they have some yeast
still in them as well as some extra hops for aroma and flavor. Once
they're tapped, they continue to evolve, so that the last pint in the keg
is remarkably different from the first. Currently, you can find
cask-conditioned Flying Fish at Andy's Corner in Bogota, NJ and The Old Bay
in New Brunswick, NJ; Dawson Street Pub, PJ McMennimins, COPA Too!, and
London in Philadelphia; Gullifty's in Ardmore, PA; and Green Leafe Pub in
Williamsburg, VA.
